Got something REALLY big and want it moved?

Joining the TIL Group of transport companies is the Specialised Lifting and Transport Group of three transport businesses specialising in the moving and lifting of very, very large items.

Comprising Machinery Movers Ltd, Tranzcarr Heavy Haulage Ltd, and Machinery Specialists, the three businesses work independently, but overlap with their experience and High-End ability in specialist transport, and work closely together on the larger projects.

With more than 80 staff in SLTG, there is a wide range of expertise in the Group including Load escort Pilots, a team of very skilled drivers, as well as a number of specialised Crane operators Riggers and Operational Supervisors/Managers, says Warwick Bell, Divisional CEO.

“Many of our staff have had many years’ experience working on all the major projects in NZ from Marsden Point to Tiwai Point and also around the South Pacific,” says Warwick. “It has been a team effort from day one and the experience of the crew and the equipment is what makes the operation successful.”

The Group’s workshop also manages fabrication, welding, and painting, along with general mechanical maintenance of over 250 pieces of specialised plant and equipment.

Machinery Movers Ltd was established in 1990 and works New Zealand wide providing a broad range of logistical services for Industrial Machinery moving including Extraction, Transportation and Installation. In many instances a total turnkey operation is provided to the customers.

Machinery Movers operate the country’s most comprehensive fleet of general and specialised trucks and trailers, custom lifting gear and associated equipment including 4 Lift and Lock Boom Gantry systems that are capable of handling loads up to 435 tonne. This includes the ability to ‘lift and walk’ the load on specially fabricated rails with heavy lifts up to 10metre off the ground being completed. The E3P Power Station Project at Huntly saw 2 loads exceeding 370tonne lifted 10metres and then propelled over 60metres to be installed.

The operation is suited to working in confined spaces, such as live switchyards and power stations. This equipment is also suited for working inside factories and buildings, with limited height access. For long distance and international projects the Gantry system is efficiently transported in custom built containers. This equipment along with transport trailer and Prime Movers has been shipped to Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea in recent years. Machinery Movers also own and operate a fleet of Franna Cranes capable of lifts up to a 20 tonne capacity.

Turn-Key services include Project Management and Project Forwarding.

This equipment includes:

  • extendable low-loader and semi-trailers capable of carrying loads exceeding 50metres in length
  • standard low-loader and step-deck trailers
  • specialised precast concrete panel trailers

Through the association of sister-company, Tranzcarr Heavy Haulage Ltd, the supply of multi-axle platform trailers and other specialised heavy haulage equipment, compliments the Machinery Movers fleet. Tranzcarr’s fleet of Goldhofer trailers imported from Germany were designed to suit NZ conditions and have worked throughout the country. In addition Tranzcarr has completed the transport of over 250 Wind Turbines working on every major Wind farm Project in NZ since 2004.

“When you are hauling loads in excess of 150tonne up and over 18% gradients you have to have equipment that is absolutely reliable and capable of the job as well as staff trained to complete the work required,” explains Warwick.

“It is equally important to be able to hold the load going down-hill as it is to be able to stop and restart on such gradients travelled up. Tranzcarr has this equipment and it has been proved to be capable time after time.”
