Anything from O-Rings to drilling rigs
When you are a customs agent specialising in the oil and gas industry such as Alpha Customs, you can expect to be asked to move anything from a small O-Ring to a full drilling rig - and everything in between.
And usually, there is a sense of urgency as time is definitely money when it comes to that industry, says Alpha’s managing director, Clayton Imbs.
“This industry is full of challenges,” says Clayton who has been with Alpha for more than 30 years.
“If it’s importing, we arrange import clearance and then domestic transport. And we are usually handling heavy, over-size or highly valuable items. And on a daily basis we will have urgent items.”
Ensuring all documentation and transport logistics comply with the Customs and Quarantine Act is taken care of by a team of 10 in New Plymouth, and 3 in Auckland – most of whom have at least seven years’ experience in being a customs agent.
“The challenge is to keep the client happy by meeting their deadlines,” says Clayton.
“We’re really proud to play our part in supporting the local oil and gas industry.”
